StepLoad Pro with SEPIA takes hours of measurements and post-processing and automates it in 30 seconds. The software drives test equipment to measure the step load response of a VRM or power supply across a wide range of frequencies, and displays the worst-case response waveform and the surrounding seven measured frequencies on the oscilloscope.
The integration of SEPIA, invented by Steve Sandler of Picotest, allows the software to simulate a SPICE model of the VRM, automatically analyzing the impedance, Q, and phase margin in a time domain analysis. Q and phase margin results are presented in different colors based on defined thresholds for stability. StepLoad Pro then identifies the necessary design fixes to reach stability.
